Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra is one of the holiest pilgrimages for Hindus, dedicated to Mata Vaishno Devi, a manifestation of Goddess Durga. The shrine is located in the Trikuta Hills of Jammu and Kashmir and attracts millions of devotees every year.

  • The demon Bhairon Nath tried to disturb her meditation, and after a long chase, she beheaded him. His head fell at a location now known as Bhairon Temple.

  • Mata Vaishno Devi then transformed into a rock form and is now worshiped as Pindies in the holy cave.

  • By Air: Jammu Airport (IXJ) – 50 km from Katra.

B. Yatra Route from Katra (Total distance: 12 km)

  1. Katra to Banganga (1 km) – Start of the trek.

  2. Banganga to Charan Paduka (1.5 km) – A sacred site where Mata’s footprints are imprinted.

  3. Charan Paduka to Ardhkuwari (6 km) – The midpoint of the journey; believed to be where Mata meditated for 9 months.

  4. Ardhkuwari to Bhawan (5.5 km) – The main shrine where the holy Pindies of Mata Vaishno Devi are present.

  5. Bhawan to Bhairon Nath Temple (2.5 km) – Devotees visit this temple after Vaishno Devi Darshan.

🚁 Helicopter Service is available from Katra to Sanjichhat (close to Bhawan).


4. Registration and Entry Process

Yatra Registration: Free and mandatory, done at Yatra Registration Counter (YRC) in Katra or online via the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) website.
Yatra Slip: Must be collected before starting the trek.
Accommodation: Available at Bhawan, Katra, and Ardhkuwari (dormitories, guest houses, private hotels).


5. Darshan & Rituals

  • Pindies Darshan: The three rock formations represent Maha Kali, Maha Lakshmi, and Maha Saraswati.
